Being a helmet designer in the pinnacle of motorsport is already an extraordinary privilege by itself. However, when the reigning world champion approached us in 2001 to inquire about a collaboration, a new chapter in the history of JMD began. Up until his last race in 2012 we accompanied the career of the most succesful F1 driver of all time, with more than 500 painted helmets and four more world championships. Our collaboration was as professional as everything in his career, and his attention for detail extraordinary. Wearing a special helmet during the USA GP in 2001 to commemorate the tragedy of 9/11 made him the first driver to convey political statements through his helmet design. After the race, the helmet was auctioned for a record amount which was later donated to charity benefitting the victims.
